Koharu Kusumi (?? ?? ,Kusumi Koharu?, born July 15, 1992 in Nagaoka, Niigata, Japan), is a J-pop singer and voice actress in Hello! Project. She joined Morning Musume as the only seventh generation member and as the youngest soloist to debut in Hello! Project, being only twelve years old when she joined. Before she joined Morning Musume, she was the captain of her school’s volleyball team. Kusumi’s audition process and debut was documented during the 2005 episodes of TV Tokyo television show, Hello! Morning.

Koharu Kusumi (14) auditioned for Morning Musume during the Lucky 7 Auditions held in Spring 2005 in Tsunku’s (producer) search for an ACE (a new young girl that could bring a substantial amount of power to the most popular girl group in Japan…Morning Musume). Competing against tens of thousands of girls, which was narrowed down to 5 girls… Koharu was chosen to be the ACE member in April 2005. She was announced as a new member of Morning Musume in May 2005 at Rika Ishikawa’s graduation concert. From then, she recieved much training in dancing, singing, and skill.
From that point on, Koharu became a full member of Morning Musume. She debuted with Morning Musume in July with the single, Iroppoi Jirettai, which happened to be Morning Musume’s biggest hit of that year. It was also accompanied with a famed handshake event, where Koharu met 15,000 of her newest fans. In other musical events, she recorded and released her first album with Morning Musume, Rainbow 7, in which she sang an ultra-kawaii tune with fellow member and mentor Sayumi Michishige, called Rainbow Pink.
In Spring 2006, Koharu was announced to be the voice and character for a new shoujo anime series, called Kirarin Revolution, which was based on a popular manga series. She had doen much promotional work appearing in top girls’ magazines such as Ciao. Her first solo single was Koi Kana, starring as her anime character, Kirari Tsukishima. She became hugely popular with her solo debut, with her sales rivaling only Morning Musume’s in all of Hello!Project.
Recently, she led in the smash hit Morning Musume single called Aruiteru. Her other solo single starring as Kirari Tsukishima, Balalaika, has been one of the highest selling singles this year for Hello!Project. ”
